Uruguayan architect Rafael Vinoly believes that “the essential responsibility of architecture is to elevate the public realm.” With the design of a glass-rich, ethereal condominium complex, due for completion in December, he’s done much the same for the private realm. Located in the chic beach town of Punta del Este, the project has 33 units, two penthouses with 356 square meter infinity edge pools.

“Unlike the many other projects I have done around the world, for me Acqua has a special meaning. It is the first project I have completed in my native country of Uruguay. Of course, I wanted it to be something unique, incomparable to any other architectural project in Punta del Este. I think you'll agree that we've been able to accomplish it. Acqua truly reflects the uniqueness and beauty of its surroundings. In this building, we have presented a unique integration of sunlight, blue sky, rippling water and distant vistas. Punta del Este’s marvelous beaches and glamorous lifestyle have been an inspiration in the vision and creation of this paradise. Innovative use of materials and space create a timeless architectural design; like Punta del Este, always fashionable. Spectacular views will give you a sensation of openness and accessibility to the marvels that surround you. It's surreal… elegant… luxurious… one-of-a-kind.” Rafael Viñoly
