When I first heard of The World, I thought that it would be only private Villas islands. You understand my deception when I have learned that The World will be mainly for resorts and commercial use, now I am not sure if I really want an island ;-) But still it is the most innovating real estate development on earth, a place beyond your imagination and your wallet ...
The World configuration measures 7 by 9 kilometers. The islands are protected by a 25 kilometer long breakwater, the longest ever constructed. Buildings on the islands will sit approx 4 or more meters above the waterline. An anticipated 40% of the islands will be zoned for medium to high density residential, it is not known how many will offer for sale individual units. The rest will be zoned for hotel or leisure activities, shopping, marinas or private villa islands.
Islands are sold as contiguous plots with both land and water areas. The developer can then use their imagination to reshape the islands to create unique features such as private beaches, coves, harbors, and marinas, by merely moving the sand within the designated setbacks and regulations.
