FALLEN PRINCESSES by DINA GOLDSTEIN

'Fallen Princesses' Not so Little Riding Hood, Sleeping Beauty, Jasmine at war, Belle, Snowy ... Photographer Dina Goldstein is taking Fairy Tale characters in modern day scenarios. The '...happily ever after' is replaced with a realistic outcome and addresses current issues.



We just love the idea and the execution. It kind of kill the magic so don't show this to your kid even if they cannot stop screaming around, just let them dream because sometimes, that's all we've got ...
That and making fun of other people ;-)



"The project was inspired by my observation of three-year-old girls, who were developing an interest in Disney's Fairy tales. As a new mother I have been able to get a close up look at the phenomenon of young girls fascinated with Princesses and their desire to dress up like them. The Disney versions almost always have sad beginning, with an overbearing female villain, and the end is predictably a happy one. The Prince usually saves the day and makes the victimized young beauty into a Princess."



"As a young girl, growing up abroad, I was not exposed to Fairy tales. These new discoveries lead to my fascination with the origins of Fairy tales. I explored the original brothers Grimm's stories and found that they have very dark and sometimes gruesome aspects, many of which were changed by Disney. I began to imagine Disney's perfect Princesses juxtaposed with real issues that were affecting women around me, such as illness, addiction and self-image issues."

POP YOUR CORN IN STYLE

This great package concept for microwave popcorn was design by Anni Nykänen of Packlab at Lahti Institute of Design in Finland.

The packaging itselfs pops-up into a nice bowl when your popcorn is ready to be served!

THE HIGH LINE OPENS IN MANHATTAN

There are many parks in Manhattan that aren't central park. The newest one is called High Line and took over rail track that was abandoned 30 years ago.



When I was living in Paris I enjoyed walking in a similar park (much longer than the High Line) between Bastille and gare de Lyon called Le Viaduc Des Arts aka La Coulée Verte [map it] under the part they used the spaces for art galleries which is pretty cool too.



The design and plantings on the High Line are based on the naturally occurring plant life that sprung up when trains stopped running.

The High Line is located on Manhattan's West Side. It runs from Gansevoort Street in the Meatpacking District to 34th Street, between 10th & 11th Avenues. Section 1 of the High Line, which opened to the public on June 9, runs from Gansevoort Street to 20th Street.



As you can see it is quite a difference from the 'before'.
